As we all know Jake Schreier’s X-Men reboot film is in the works and now the writers of the film have been revealed. Collider, caught up with director Schreier recently and he revealed a renewal of his working relationship with two writers on the new MCU film. The Bear‘s Joanna Calo and Beef‘s Lee Sung Jin.
“We’re still developing. You know, one of the exciting things that’s tying into Beef is that Sonny [Lee Sung Jin] and Joanna [Calo] both worked on this season. Obviously, I mean, Beef is Sonny’s show, and Joanna worked on the season as well, and we worked together on Season 1 of Beef and on Thunderbolts*. They have come in and are working on a draft right now, which is really exciting to be able to put that group of people together again.”
As Schreier says, Calo worked on Thunderbolts* with the director and despite average box office, it was hailed by critics and fans. Marvel seems to be trusting what they saw, rather than focusing on the box office, which was probably effected by previous failures at the studio. Adding in Lee Sung Chin, who is another successful writer in his own right, would suggest the script for the film is in good hands.
Of course, there may be other hands on that script before it begins shooting, as is the usual process. However, initial drafts and pitches will be used to pull the cast together. At the moment we have no word on when X-Men production may ramp up. However, Secret Wars begins shooting this Summer. Threfore, I think we can guesstimate that X-Men, which is set to be the next film, will be around Winter or early 2027.

So far there are no casting or roster rumors (or news). Well, there is one actor/character likely to show up. However, this is not the article for rumors and spoilers.
Schreier continued,
“When you go back and read X-Men [comics], there’s ideology but also interpersonal drama, almost of a soap opera quality. Having writers who understand both how to drive ideology from personal stakes, if we get that right, that’s what will feel most honest to what X-Men can be.” When it comes to the traditional Marvel secrecy, Schreier is keeping things as tight-lipped as you’d expect someone working on such a high-profile MCU project: “We’ll film in a little black box and never leave. But seriously, the studio has experience with this. We’ve talked about it, but I can’t say anymore.”
So, what do you think of Jake Schreier’s X-Men reboot’s new writers in Joanna Calo and Lee Sung Jin? Thoughts below.
