Johnny Depp Is Scrooge in New Trailer for Ti West’s Ebenezer

Johnny Depp in Ebenezer from Paramount Pictures.

A new trailer for Ebenezer is out, and it shows director Ti West isn’t making a cozy holiday film. The movie is a darker, gothic take on Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol, with Johnny Depp as Ebenezer Scrooge. It opens only in theaters on November 13, 2026.

The trailer arrives about six weeks before release. It leans into the eerie side of the story, with ghosts and the cold, shadowy world fans of West’s horror films expect. The film is Depp’s first Hollywood studio movie in eight years, which makes it one of the most closely watched releases of the holiday season.

West is best known for horror, especially the X trilogy (X, Pearl and MaXXXine). He brings that style to a story retold for nearly two centuries. The film’s tagline, “The name you know, the story you don’t,” hints that this version may surprise audiences who think they know every turn of Scrooge’s night with the spirits.

Nathaniel Halpern, the creator of Tales from the Loop and a writer on Legion, wrote the screenplay. Emma Watts produced. The executive producers are West, Adam Bohling, David Reid, Stephen Deuters, Jason Forman, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro and Andrew Lary.

Depp leads a large cast. Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Sam Claflin, Daisy Ridley, Arthur Conti, Ellie Bamber, Henry Lloyd-Hughes and Charlie Murphy co-star, with Tramell Tillman of Severance and Ian McKellen. The cast mixes franchise stars like Grint and Ridley with acclaimed character actors like Riseborough and McKellen, suggesting the film’s rich world of ghosts, clerks, and Victorian Londoners will be well populated.

A Christmas Carol has been adapted many times, from Alastair Sim’s 1951 classic to The Muppet Christmas Carol and Robert Zemeckis’s motion-capture version. Ebenezer is one of the few to treat it as a ghost story first. Pairing a horror filmmaker with one of Hollywood’s most magnetic and divisive stars could make it a seasonal event, or at least one of the year’s most talked-about films.

Moviegoers can see Depp’s Scrooge meet his ghosts when Ebenezer opens in theaters on November 13.
