Jon Bernthal comments on the connections between Spider-Man: Brand New Day and the Punisher Special Presentation. In a recent interview Bernthal, who reprises his MCU role of Punisher in both the film and the Special has opened up a little.
Speaking with Screen Rant Bernthal said,
“Around that same time, there will also be this Punisher special that’s coming out, that I think will be as high-octane Punisher as you’ve ever seen,” the actor teased. “I think what was really important to me and to Destin and to Tom is that we believed that The Punisher could walk off of the Spider-Man set and could walk onto the special set, and I do believe that we achieved that.”
Which I guess makes sense as a concern because of the probable tonal differences between TV-MA rated Punisher Special and the PG-13 Brand New Day.

Though, despite how Bernthal phrases it here, I don’t think the Punisher Special will come after Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It seems more likely to me that would arrive before Spider-Man hits theatres in July. Filming was definitely complete on the Punisher Special before Bernthal arrived on set for Brand New Day. Therefore, I expected this Special either before, or just after Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. That is still scheduled for March 4th, far as we know for now.
What do you think of Jon Bernthal’s comments about maintaining connections between the Punisher Special and Spider-Man: Brand New Day? Thoughts below as always.
