Jonathan Majors On Choosing Kang Without Fully Knowing What Was Planned

Collider did a recent interview with Jonathan Majors on choosing Kang without fully knowing what was planned going in. When Majors agreed to play He Who Remains in Loki, there was no one who came and explained the entire plan for this character to him. However, looking into the character of Kang was enough to convince him this was the right role.

“I knew everything that everyone else knew, you know, and still do actually. Where it’s like this is the role, and this is where we’re starting. That’s as far as we got. And that was enough for me to try to understand who this character was.”

“When I looked at the significance of Kang in the MCU, I agreed to the role in the same way I agree to any other film that I do,” Majors continued. “What is the responsibility of the character? Can the world move forward without them? Can the scene move forward without them? And if it can then I’m okay. And if it can’t then it’s something that I want to take on and take that responsibility.”

Of course we know one place that Majors is sure to show up next and that’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, where he will be playing the version of his character known as Kang for the first time. My bet is that Kang will certainly appear again after that. That’s the thing about how this version of Kang is set up. If you get rid of one version, you allow another to have the chance instead. I think ultimately, He Who Remains at one point did what we did for the ‘greater good’. Of course he denies any freedom of self determination to do so, but he seemed far more scared of what Kang could do.

I could see Kang ultimately being dealt with for good in some event movie further down the line. For now, I think this is a character that may pop up when we least expect it.

What do you think about Jonathan Majors on choosing Kang? Was he right to agree to this role on his instincts? Leave any thoughts you have below.
