Marvel Studios has never been shy about thinking big, but if the studio’s Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con proved anything, it’s that Avengers: Doomsday isn’t simply another crossover event—it’s the company’s most ambitious gamble since Avengers: Endgame.
During Marvel Studios’ massive Hall H showcase, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige assembled an all-star lineup that rivaled the biggest Comic-Con presentations in history. Joined by directors Anthony and Joe Russo, Feige welcomed an astonishing collection of stars to the stage, including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Simu Liu, James Marsden, David Harbour, Letitia Wright, Lewis Pullman, Kelsey Grammer, Danny Ramirez, Winston Duke, Hannah John-Kamen, Rebecca Romijn, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, and Hayley Atwell, who officially confirmed her return as Peggy Carter.
If there was ever any doubt that Marvel Studios intends for Avengers: Doomsday to be its next defining cinematic event, Hall H erased it.
The presentation wasn’t simply about celebrity appearances. Marvel turned the panel itself into an immersive experience by handing every attendee a Doctor Doom mask and cloak before Robert Downey Jr.—now portraying Victor von Doom—invited thousands of fans to suit up alongside him. It was one of those classic Hall H moments designed to remind everyone why Marvel became synonymous with Comic-Con in the first place.

The studio also revealed that Avengers: Doomsday will unite heroes from three separate universes in a story centered around an existential threat unlike anything the Marvel Cinematic Universe has faced before. Considering the already announced cast extends well beyond the panel participants including Chris Hemsworth, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Sebastian Stan, Joseph Quinn, Channing Tatum, Alan Cumming, Kathryn Newton, Wyatt Russell, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Mabel Cadena; Marvel appears determined to make this its biggest ensemble film ever.
That ambition carries enormous expectations.
Following the mixed reception to portions of the Multiverse Saga, Marvel Studios has been searching for the event film capable of unifying audiences the way Infinity War and Endgame once did. Bringing back the Russo Brothers already suggested the studio was returning to a proven formula. Reintroducing Robert Downey Jr. in a completely different role as Doctor Doom elevated anticipation even further. Now, combining legacy X-Men characters, Avengers veterans, Fantastic Four members, Thunderbolts, Wakandans, and newer heroes into one massive crossover signals that Marvel isn’t playing it safe.
Instead, the studio is betting that bigger really can be better.
Of course, assembling this many iconic characters is only half the challenge. Balancing dozens of storylines while giving each hero meaningful moments is what made Infinity War and Endgame such remarkable achievements. Avengers: Doomsday now carries the same burden while introducing an entirely new dynamic with Downey’s Doctor Doom standing opposite heroes audiences have followed for nearly two decades.
Still, Marvel’s willingness to embrace that challenge is exactly what made the Hall H presentation so exciting.
Rather than scaling back after a few uneven years, Marvel Studios appears ready to swing for the fences with one of the largest ensemble films ever attempted. Whether Avengers: Doomsday ultimately delivers remains to be seen, but after Comic-Con, one thing is clear: Marvel intends for this to be another defining moment in blockbuster filmmaking.
