With the Black Panther film franchise blowing the doors open for more Black comic book characters in the Marvel Universe, the next Black heroine comes in the animated series Marvel’s Moon Girl and the Devil Dinosaur.
Based on the Marvel comic series by Brandon Montclare and Amy Reeder, the series follows a brilliant girl being paired with an above-intelligent dinosaur to battle various evil ruffians with superpowers in her urban neighborhood.
The series stars Diamond White as the voice of Lunella/Moon Girl; Fred Tatasciore as Devil Dinosaur; Alfre Woodard as Lunella’s grandmother, Mimi; Libe Barer as Lunella’s best friend and manager, Casey; Sasheer Zamata as Lunella’s mom, Adria; Jermaine Fowler as Lunella’s dad, James Jr.; Gary Anthony Williams as Lunella’s grandfather, Pops; and Laurence Fishburne as the recurring role of The Beyonder, a mischievous alien trickster.
Here is a brief description of the series:
Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur follow the adventures of 13-year-old super-genius Lunella Lafayette (aka Moon Girl) and her 10-ton T-Rex, Devil Dinosaur. After Lunella accidentally brings Devil Dinosaur into present-day New York City, the duo works together to protect the city’s Lower East Side from danger.
