New Nintendo Direct Could Hit Next Week — But It May Not Be What Fans Hope For

It’s been, what, five months since the last legit Nintendo Direct? Yes, we’ve had a Pokémon Direct, and yes, we’ve had an Animal Crossing Direct, but it’s been a long time since there’s been an honest to goodness Nintendo Direct. I’m talking about those thirty-minute presentations packed full of tons of I.P.s, both first and thirty party, and one or two bombshells from within. Sure, those game-specific Directs are awesome for fans of the properties, but if you’re craving something new…it does nothing for you.

As it stands, the Nintendo Switch is at an incredibly odd place. It’s a runaway hit system, without a doubt, but 2020 is looking pretty darn sparse. This isn’t totally strange. At the beginning of each year, most of the big tentpole titles on the Switch are a complete mystery. What is strange is that they’re still a mystery. Last year, we got a full Nintendo Direct in February. The year before, we got a Direct-Mini in January followed by a full one in early March.

I’m not one of those fans who demands the world of a console maker, but I do like an idea of how many big titles we can expect in a given year. So, when can we expect a new Direct? Venture Beat is reporting that we can likely expect the next Direct on March 18. So, fans rejoice, right?

Well, maybe. But maybe not. According to the outlet, we are likely get an indie showcase Direct. That means we will likely just be getting a rundown of some of the independent games on the horizon. Don’t get me wrong, as a huge fan of indie games on the Switch, I think that’s great news. But this won’t bill the blockbuster game info void we’ve been wallowing in since the Direct last September.

But don’t lament just yet. The outlet went on to state that a FULL Nintendo Direct will likely hit on March 26. In other words, in just over two weeks, we’ll be able to finally feast our eyes on what’s to come in 2020 for the Switch? Well, it’s about time. It only took one-fourth of the year in order for that to be the case.
