Pedro Pascal And Jon Favreau Talk The Mandalorian And Grogu At CCXPMX

Some coverage of Pedro Pascal and Jon Favreau’s appearance at CCXPMX this weekend to promote The Mandalorian and Grogu. The convention had a lot less media buzz than CinemaCon did, and we all know why. The Doomsday trailer was not shown this past weekend. However, The Mandalorian and Grogu director Jon Favreau and star Pedro Pascal were doing the rounds in Mexico and it was quite emotional for Pascal. Born in Chile and fluent in Spanish, Pascal is probably the biggest Latinx actor on the planet right now, starring in both Star Wars and Marvel franchises.

THR were there to cover the event,

“As soon as I saw this, I knew that it would be a new authorship of a streaming experience,” the actor said about the series that was last seen with 2023’s season three finale. “But I always had a dream in my heart that it would be on a big screen because that’s how I was developed as a child. I went to the movie theater so much with my family, and I saw the Star Wars movies on the big screen.”

‘After then sharing some words in Spanish, Pascal became visibly emotional and paused to push back tears. This led to a big cheer from the crowd as attendees started cheering his name. After again addressing the audience in Spanish, the actor blew a kiss to the fans. Video from the moment can be seen above.’

“We wanted to introduce these characters to a new audience,” Favreau said. “But for the fans who have been there forever, like [this crowd], we wanted to evolve the relationship. It’s not no longer about the Mandalorian rescuing Grogu. Now Grogu has leveled up. He’s a Mandalorian apprentice, he’s studying under Luke Skywalker. He’s coming into his own, and now he’s discovering and unleashing his abilities.”

I can imagine some fans doing the eyes emoji at this quote. “He’s studying under Luke Skywalker.” Let’s just be clear, I think either THR just misquoted this line from ‘studied’, or Favreau just misspoke. There are no indications Grogu has anything to do with Luke in the film. After all, he had his chance to study as a jedi and instead chose to be a Mandalorian.

There are some box office reports looking a little more favourable at the movie’s opening week. We reported one outlet predicted $70-85M, but some others are hedging as high as $100m at the top end. If it happens, that would be a lot more of a success out the gate. As I did say before though, the word of mouth will tell the real story on this one. If early adopters slate it, then casuals will wait for streaming and vice versa.
