Nothing in the world of film is unpredictable. Even with stars attached, directors on board, and scripts in shooting script form, it all can come tumbling down like a house of cards at the slightest wind of interference. Though while the world of filmmaking is oh-so-fickle, it’s probably never been more evident and public than with Warner Bros. and DC Films.
More than any other studio, their slate seems to wax and wane depending on the day of the week or the source being quoted from a specific outlet. And even if those sources are correct, the chances of all of it changing are incredibly high over time. However, one film that’s always been set in the distant future has been Green Lantern Corps.
Though while it’s been there, we’ve never gotten any real details regarding the movie — neither the Lanterns involved nor the talent involved to bring it to the big screen. That Hashtag Show brings forth news that the studio is currently looking for a director, and that a familiar name is being eyed.
That familiar name is none other than Mission: Impossible – Fallout director Christopher McQuarrie. While in the past, Rupert Wyatt has been attached to the movie, it sounds like that ship has long since sailed. If true, I’d say this is a significant upgrade, as McQuarrie is not just a great director, but an amazing writer, who has worked on such film as Edge of Tomorrow.
The outlet goes on to wonder that, should McQuarrie sign on, would Tom Cruise follow? While we can’t really imagine Cruise starring in a DC film, it doesn’t seem impossible, and could go a long way to incite enthusiasm for the movie.
