This September Shutter is set to release the horror film, “Elevator Game”.
It’s very common these days to see so many YouTubers make content all about debunking or sensationalizing urban legends. In this film, we find a group of young adults doing just that attempting to try the Elevator Game. Unfortunately, when they do, it seems that they invited something in that stayed with them.
With the release of the film next month Shutter has released a poster and trailer for the film, you can check them out below.
“Elevator Game” seems to have a fairly simple concept that could be executed well and be very entertaining. It’s been interesting to see the next generation of young adults/teens getting put in these horrific situations. The only difference now is their immediate access to technology and social media which adds a new dimension to horror films.

One cannot look at this film and not think of the tragic story of Elisa Lam. A young traveler who’s body was found in the water tank of the Cecil Hotel in 2013. While her official cause of death was listed as an accidental drowning, noting that her bipolar disorder was probably a big factor, there are still those who think otherwise.
Before finding her body, there is security footage of Lam acting very strange in the hotel elevator. This led some to speculate that she was in fact playing the Elevator Game, a more complicated version of Bloody Mary. This is a very strange and creepy story that you should check out.
Here is the synopsis for Shutter’s “Elevator Game”
Based on the online phenomenon of the same name, ELEVATOR GAME follows socially awkward teenager Ryan, who ingratiates himself into a group of recent high school graduates that run an online web series debunking urban legends. But Ryan has a secret: His sister disappeared months earlier, and he believes they – and a dangerous online challenge called ‘The Elevator Game’ – were responsible.
To play the game, you must ride the elevator in a specific sequence, invoking a supernatural creature called ‘The 5th Floor Woman’. In an attempt to gain more information as to the whereabouts of his sister, Ryan persuades the group to play the game once more, and risk unleashing the most fearsome consequences imaginable.
“Elevator Game”, a Shutter Original, debuts on their streaming platform on September 15.
