It’s apparently never been a better time to be a Star Trek fan. CBS is very much doubling down on their capitalization of the franchise, which began with the Star Trek: Discovery series and is continuing on with a Jean-Luc Picard series, the Star Trek: Lower Decks animated series, as well as others currently in the works. But don’t think that’s everything they have in the works.
Deadline is reporting that they are also working hard at a spin-off series of the show that will follow Michelle Yeoh’s character. At present, this spin-off series is in the very early stages, and as of now, there are no plans for her to leave future seasons of Star Trek: Discovery. This new series is supposedly going to be an ensemble series, which is no surprise.

Star Trek overlord Alex Kurtzman had the following to say in a statement:
“Michelle has shattered ceilings, broken boundaries, and astonished us with her grace and gravitas for decades. As a human, I adore her. As an actor, I revere her. Erika and Boey are remarkable, exciting writers who bring a fresh perspective to the world of Star Trek, and we’re all thrilled to explore the next wild chapter in the life of Captain Philippa Georgiou.”
“I’m so excited to continue telling these rich Star Trek stories,” Yeoh said in a statement. “Being a part of this Universe and this character specifically has been such a joy for me to play. I can’t wait to see where it all goes – certainly I believe it will go ‘where no WOMAN has ever gone before!'”
But what will this new series actually be about? From what my colleagues tell me about the show, she isn’t exactly the most likable character, and the version of her we get later in Season 2 isn’t the same one as the one who died at the end of Season 1. The report says that this series will focus “on a continuation of Yeoh’s Discovery Season 2 adventures in Starfleet’s Section 31 division.”
