Street Fighter: The Movie Gets Dragon-Punched By An Honest Trailer

Street Fighter is a prime example of Hollywood’s inability to adapt video game franchises. The vast majority of films based on video games are simply just awful. From Super Mario Brothers to the Mortal Kombat films of the 1990s, transferring a story from console to screen is one formula studios just can’t seem to grasp.

Video game fans have come to accept that Hollywood attempting to adapt their favorite gaming franchise is not necessarily good news. However, Tinseltown has struggled with producing films that live up to fans’ expectations. Oftentimes the resulting films come across as an insult to the fan base.

Street Fighter was written by people who may never have actually played the games. Did they receive a crash course on the characters and lore? There are a couple of silver linings for the film. One being it did quite well at the box-office. Additionally, as pointed out by this Honest Trailer, Raul Julia’s performance as M. Bison was easily the best part of the film.
