For months now, The CW has teased the upcoming crossover between Supernatural and Scooby-Doo. More recently, we’ve discovered that the show will find Sam and Dean Winchester trapped in a very specific episode of the show — though because of their involvement, the episode will be playing out more than a little bit differently.
But what exactly will the tone of the episode be? While Supernatural and Scooby-Doo are both mystery-solvers who specialize in the paranormal (though Scooby‘s episodes were largely just dudes in masks), their tones couldn’t be more different. The showrunnners have stated in the past that this will be a bit darker than your average Scooby-Doo fare.

We had a chance to see that difference first hand in this trailer. In it, we see a dude with his head cut off, his eyes wide open, and his body on the other side of the room. Say what you will about Scooby-Doo, but it never ever got to that level of gore.
Though while it does look like they will be upping the brutality in this episode, it also seems like they will be lightening the tone. Most of the trailer is spent on silly gags in the vein of typical Scooby-Doo episodes, as well as Dean hitting on Daphne (we’d expect nothing less). If nothing else, this will be an entertaining watch, even if you’ve long since given up on the show.
This episode of Supernatural will air next Thursday on March 29, 2018.
