The Karate Kid Saga Continues In First Cobra Kai Teaser
Forget the reboot movie with Jackie Chan, the true spirit of The Karate Kid is set to continue in a much more low-key fashion.
In case you haven’t heard, YouTube is revitalizing the property in a brand-new digital series that will bring together former rivals Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso once again…except their rivalry isn’t at all done yet. Decades may have passed since high school, but for some reason, their feud still continues, and will take place on the small screen in Cobra Kai.
YouTube Red has released the first-ever footage from the upcoming series, and while it’s only a measly 49 seconds, it’s not too bad. There’s a good amount of throwback footage, as well as some of the Cobra Kai brainwashing-speak we grew up hating. The big difference, of course, is that the pair of martial artists are way old now, and look more at home behind a desk than in a dojo.
But that’s not a bad thing. Very clearly this will be a Creed-esque passing of the guard, and I can only hope it manages to capture a fraction of what The Karate Kid did. However, given that the emphasis here will supposedly be more on comedy, it’s very possible that it’ll be nothing but a cheap attempt to cash in on another beloved property.
But again, I’ll have to see more footage of this thing before I come to that conclusion. What did you think of this first teaser? Let us know your thoughts down below!
