I’m not what one would call a fan of the romance genre. However, there are two sitcom relationships that I do enjoy. One would be Marshall and Lily from How I Met Your Mother. The other is Jim and Pam from The Office. Everything seemed to just work out for Jim and Pam. That was until Season 9 when they hit a few bumps in the road on their way to eternal happiness.
For a few episodes, it looked as if Jim and Pam weren’t going to make it. However, showrunner Greg Daniels said the two of them parting ways was never going to happen. You can check out what Daniels had to say on the matter while speaking with Collider below.
“The plan was never to split them up. The plan was just to introduce a little worry into the audience so that they’d stand up and pay attention and that there would be a little feeling of like the Act 2 break in a movie. But no there was never gonna be a split-up for them. There was always a happy ending planned.”
This was easily my least favorite part of Season 9 if The Office but I am glad they ended up together. Daniels said the rough patch for the couple made the ending of the show that much better for viewers.
“It was not a happy thing for people, but I feel like the ending of the series was good and maybe it wouldn’t have been so satisfying if there hadn’t have been a little bit of anxiety beforehand.”
