The Strangers: Prey At Night Music Featurette Highlights The Retro Soundtrack
In just about every way, shape and form, The Strangers: Prey at Night is a loving homage to the slashers of yesteryear. Director Johannes Roberts has stated the influence of filmmaker John Carpenter on his own work, and as Carpenter utilized his music to his fullest extent, Roberts hoped to do the same with his own soundtrack.
“When I watch a movie, I like the music to be a character,” Roberts said in the above featurette. “I love the way John Carpenter uses music. There’s just something about it that’s just like hammering you and thematic. So I really wanted that sort of John Carpenter vibe, and opening the film with ‘Kids in America,’ it just seemed to set the tone of the movie very well.”

This generation of filmmakers and consumers seem to take infinite joy in indulging in the past, and for this particular film, the decade of choice was the 1980s. This was the perfect decade for the director, as he finds the music to skew towards the melodramatic side, which is fitting for the material.
Notable 80s artists in the film include Air Supply, Tiffany, Kim Wilde, Bonnie Tyler, and more!
