Thor: Ragnarok Originally Had Thor And Valkyrie Kissing

I remember growing and being frustrated with a lot of Hollywood movies. No matter the movie, it was pretty much guaranteed to have a romantic subplot. Nothing against romance, but those were the parts of the big movies that I had the least amount of interest in, and to be honest, it feels like, more often than not, the romance stuff is the part Hollywood itself is least interested in. More than anything, it feels like a four-quadrant checklist some studios are checking off.

That’s why it’s been so nice in recent years for them to actually allow movies like Thor: Ragnarok NOT to have a romantic subplot. Sure, there are some hints here and there that something could actually happen between the two, but they didn’t feel the need to “Jane Foster” it, as it were (meaning they didn’t make it a situation where two characters fell in love over the course of knowing each other for a day).

Well, apparently, that was a decision that was made in the editing room. Speaking with Cinema Blend on the set of Men in Black: International, co-stars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson revealed their will they, won’t they chemistry:

Chris: Yeah, we had kisses.

Tessa: There was a whole sequence, I mean there were takes in there…yeah.

Chris: It may or may not—

Tessa: It was a like, yeah … it’s in the deep cut, the DVD extra extra extra if you know what I mean.

Chris: Didn’t make it.

Tessa: We had a kissing scene.

Chris: We had a kissing scene.

Tessa: To be totally honest. Isn’t that always — that’s seems to be the way with us. Even with Thor it was the same thing. It was like will we, won’t we.

To be honest, it almost sounds like Thompson wasn’t really referring to having filmed kissing scenes, but rather the “will they, won’t they” dynamic. However, given that Cinema Blend was actually there, and this is how they presented the information, I guess I have no choice but to trust them on this one.

Either way, I’m happy they ultimately decided to cut that aspect. It gives them room to grow in the future (assuming neither character bites the dust in Avengers: Endgame). What do you think? Are you happy they cut it? Let us know in the comments below!
