Thor: Ragnarok Tracking To Break $100 Million In Opening Weekend
Thor: Ragnarok is currently tracking to break $100 million at the box office, Variety reports. This would mark it as the most successful opening for any Thor movie to date. The first Thor had a commendable $65 million, and Thor: The Dark World took in $85 million.
Given the fact that Thor: The Dark World was one of Marvel Studios’ worst received offerings, one would expect perhaps something of a soft opening for Thor: Ragnarok. However, given the fantastic marketing behind the threequel, as well as the overwhelmingly positive reviews, it’s likely that audiences will gladly make their ways to the theaters to see the superhero’s next outing.
The outlet goes on to state that the year-to-date box office thus far is down 5 percent from last year, and given that IT was the only film in recent memory to actually meet or succeed expectations, Thor: Ragnarok will be a welcome sight for the business. We’re also sure Justice League will help out on that front as well.
Imprisoned on the other side of the universe, the mighty Thor finds himself in a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against the Hulk, his former ally and fellow Avenger. Thor’s quest for survival leads him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization.
Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
