Two New Star Wars Games Announced – Fate Of The Old Republic And Galactic Racer – Plus Teaser Trailers

Lucasfilm Games has announced two new Star Wars games, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic and Star Wars: Galactic Racer, plus we have teaser trailers. Both games were announced at the 2025 Game Awards yesterday and both remain in active development. First off, let’s have a look at Fate of the Old Republic, an action RPG, which some fans are calling KOTR 3.

However, though some of the developers are consistent from KOTR, they do call this a brand new story set in the Star Wars Universe.

Fate of the Old Republic

There’s a lot more information about the history of those involved and the development goals for this game over at StarWars.com. It’s around a 5 minute read for the full thing. However, there’s no date set, and the most relevant details I already gave you, that it is an action RPG and there’s currently no release window.

‘The brand-new epic narrative single-player action role-playing game from Arcanaut Studios, developed in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games was announced on stage tonight at this year’s Game Awards. Along with the first look at a thrilling trailer, it was announced that Fate of the Old Republic will be developed by a new studio launched by Casey Hudson, the director of the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect trilogy.’

‘Blending innovative storytelling, memorable characters, and heart-pounding combat, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic will immerse you in an unforgettable experience where every decision deepens your journey toward the light…or the darkness.’

I’m sure we will find out a lot more about this one as it progresses. However, we’ve been at this stage before with Star Wars games that never saw the light of day. So I’ll wait for the gameplay demo myself. Though, a good Star Wars action RPG would be right up my street, if it’s done well.

Our second game is one many fans will be familiar with as a concept. It looks like a reboot of Star Wars: Podracer, the arcade and console game. Though it’s noticeable there are other non-podracing vehicles seen in this trailer for Star Wars: Galactic Racer.

Galactic Racer

The old Podracing games were okay, in small measures. I always found that after around an hour, you were fed up with it. Also, I don’t ever remember any of them having any decent controls, not even the arcade version. I guess what I’m saying, is that if they can make this balanced, play well and remain exciting, then there’s a chance for it. If not, well then, it’ll be as forgotten as Squadrons was.

There’s an article on StarWars.com for this on also, it’s less of a read, but what is there to say really? It’s a podracing game reboot, meh!

‘The familiar location from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a popular haunt for scavengers like Rey in later years, has been transformed into an unsanctioned racetrack for the all-new video game Star Wars: Galactic Racer, just announced tonight at the 2025 Game Awards.’

What do you think of these newly announced Star Wars games? Thoughts below as always.
