‘Utopia’ Cancelled After One Season On Amazon

The Amazon show Utopia took years to get into production will only end up lasting one season. After mediocre reviews and failing to capture an audience stuck at home from the pandemic, Amazon has canceled its Gillian Flynn-produced drama series after one season.

The remake of Dennis Kelly’s British series of the same name was developed and picked up straight to series back in 2014 at HBO. Utopia is about a group of comic book fans who stumble on a deadly pandemic  Originally the series was organized when David Fincher and Gillian Flynn teamed up to bring the series to life. Four years later and David Fincher gone the series was moved to Amazon when Flynn left HBO.

Although actual streaming numbers were never revealed for the series, the reviews for the series were not in favor of the show.  The series launched back on September 25th and received a 51 percent rating among critics on RottenTomatoes.com but does not have an audience score.  This was the perfect recipe for a show to get cancelled.

The show starred John Cusack which also included Sasha Lane, Rainn Wilson, Ashleigh LaThrop, Desmin Borges, Farrah Mackenzie and Christopher Denham. Other shows that were announced by Amazon to end this upcoming season are The Expanse for a sixth and final season, Bosh and Goliath in 2021. Amazon’s scripted slate includes returning series Hunters, The Boys, Carnival Row, Jack Ryan and the forthcoming The Lord of the Rings, A League of Their Own and The Peripheral, among others.
