Waller And Paradise Lost Shows Shelved – More Rejected In DCU TV Shakeup

Some big shakeups in the DCU TV side as both Waller and Paradise Lost are shelved, plus Poison Ivy and Catwoman shows rejected. The report comes initially from The Ankler, though EW later backed some of the report and clarified some details.

The initial report from The Ankler said that Waller and Paradise Lost were no longer moving forward at DC Studios.

The outlet also reports that pitches for projects centred around Poison Ivy and Catwoman have been passed by DC & HBO while a second season for The Penguin is still up in the air. Booster Gold however, remains in development as a search for a new writer is underway.

As for The Penguin this kinda goes again recent reports that Season 2 was not moving ahead after all. That was around the time we also heard a Poison Ivy series set in the ReevesVerse was in development. So one of the reports is incorrect, or both are off the mark and maybe we are getting neither ReevesVerse TV series?

EW added that while Waller and Paradise Lost are no longer a priority, the former remains in development and the the latter could see the light of day in the future. However, that is a line we expect to hear when a project is shelved. Usually it would take a new pitch to kick it back of again. Waller still being developed may be positive, but it’s been so long now since Viola Davis last played that character I’m not sure it’s a priority for this DCU.

Either way we look at it, Gunn’s original vision that was presented for the DCU’s phase 1 is pretty much in tatters now. Of all those announced projects only Creature Commandos, Superman, Peacemaker Season 2, Supergirl and Lanterns has made it into production. Lanterns hasn’t been released yet, Superman was a modest success and Supergirl was a flop. I have no real way to judge how successful the other two TV projects were, but in my opinion Peacemaker Season 1 was superior.

It shows us how difficult it really is to pull off a unified cinematic Universe across all mediums. It also shows us that the general public will still turn up for Marvel’s big guns, but little else when it comes to the superhero genre currently.

If Man of Tomorrow isn’t a big hit, I’m not sure the DCU will survive even as long as the DCEU did.

What do you think of this DCU TV shakeup as Waller and Paradise Lost are being shelved? Thoughts below.
