Wheel Of Time Questions Answered By Star And Showrunner – Many Details

Wheel of Time questions answered by Star Rosamund Pike and showrunner Rafe Judkins and they include key details. Judkins and Pike took part in a question and answer session on the official The Wheel of Time twitter account. You can find the entire set of question that were asked, and the answers given through the link back there or the embed below. There is a lot there, and much of it is the kind of questions I don’t feel the need to cover. There were however some key details we did not know that I do want to share.

As promised, here are the most important details.

What Season 1 Will Cover

Question #8: How much will Season 1 cover? Book 1 or spread across several? Looks amazing!!!

Rafe: Season One will cover Book One, plus some of Book Two and even Book Three. But also not all of Book One, as some of it is in Season Two. Cryptic enough?

This one is a strange answer. The first book is perhaps the most linear and straightforward of them all. I always expected Season 1 to get into some book 2 territory, but book 3? I must say I am surprised so it’ll be interesting to see how they’ve decided to present all the different aspects of this story in the show.

The Thinking Behind Showing The One Power On Screen

Question #14: How were you able to come up with how the weaving of the One power looks?

Rosamund: I needed to feel that you would believe Moiraine had this power if there were no visual effects — the most important thing for me, was that I felt connected to something greater than myself. Robert Jordan is so eloquent about what it feels like to channel, the feeling of the one power filling your veins, the risk of it, the risk of drawing too much and the necessity of respecting it and being trained to use it.

Rafe: All of the VFX teams looking at the One Power we’re going off documents of descriptions of it pulled straight from the books, and using that as jumping off points.

Rating

Question #16: What is the show rated? Will people be able to watch it with their teenagers?

Rafe: People should certainly be able to watch with their teenagers.

To be fair this is exactly just what I expected from this series. There is absolutely some sex, nudity and violence, but never as graphic or as shocking as Game of Thrones was. The story is still exciting with lots of twists though.

Practical Effects

Question #19: How much of the myrddraal is practical effects?

Rafe: The Myrddraal, like almost all elements in the show, is as much practical as we could manage, enhanced by VFX. I always think that gives a more disturbing and real-feeling quality than full VFX creatures.

The practical effects first, until they can’t be used is approach I feel provides the best results. I like this news, and those Fades whilst not what I imagined, look scary as hell.

The Wheel of Time Composer Revealed

Question #21: Can we get some information on the composer or the score for the show? So excited for this! Thank you both so much for bringing this to life!

Rafe: If Amazon let’s this answer go through, this is me proudly announcing that we have the most incredible composer working on the show by the name of Lorne Balfe. You’ve gotten a tiny hint of his music with the reveal of the Logo, and what he’s doing is really special.

I love this because Balfe is also the composer on another of my favorite fantasy adaptations, His Dark Materials. Balfe’s score is immense on HDM and the little I’ve heard of WoT pleases me.

As said above and as you can see by the numbers there are loads of questions I didn’t have space to cover here, so go check them out for yourself on Twitter if you want to hear more about what Judkins and Pike had to say.

A reader on the trailer thread linked above yesterday said Wheel of Time looks like deleted scenes from Game of Thrones with a cast from Sword of Shannara. I really don’t see that form this trailer, however I can assure you that is not the case if I am referencing the books themselves. There really are great characters, high stakes, good arcs, and exciting plot twists throughout this series. Sadly I cannot guarantee this will be a great adaptation, however from what I have seen, I do have high hopes for this one.

Oh, finally, we have a rumored schedule for Season 1 of Wheel of Time on amazon.

We know the show makes its debut on November 19th. However recent anonymous rumors from around the fan base have given us some more information potentially. In my opinion, this is legit, but I cannot guarantee it. However we are being told that the series is 8 Episodes long, and that November 19th will see the drop of the first three Episodes, followed up by a weekly release until the Season finale on December 24th. I will definitely be reviewing those episodes for LRM Online.
