Yesterday at this year’s Television Critics Association panel by Paramount+ LRM Online got a little insight on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. For long-time fans of the Star Trek franchise, the addition of a new series is always a welcoming sight. Especially one that is looking to get back to its episodic roots that many remember. As we get ready to journey through the universe in the U.S.S. Enterprise with Captain Pike and Officer Spock, we wonder what other classic characters or places we will have the opportunity to see.
During the panel, we didn’t have to wait long for one possible return in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. We already knew that actress Christina Chong would be playing a character named La’an Noonien-Singh. This is very significant as one of the franchise’s greatest villains and nemesis to Captain Kirk, Khan shares the same last name. His full name is Khan Noonien Singh. This led to the many making the assumption that there was a connection but that hadn’t been confirmed.
Co-showrunner for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Akiva Goldsman was happy to shed a little light on the matter. “She’s related to Khan, for sure, and, uh, and the deal will unfold…” Goldsman said. “We don’t want to bring folks into the show to be splashy. We want to dig deeply into characters that are part of our ensemble and then, obviously, we’re open to getting our arms … but right now, what you see is what you get.”
While it does not confirm an appearance, the relationship to the character does give us hope that he can eventually appear in the series. Which would send fans into a frenzy. The character had been played by Ricardo Montalban and Benedict Cumberbatch in the past.
