Witness The Subtle, Intelligent Comedy Of The Happytime Murders In New Red Band Trailer

STX Entertainment dropped a second look at their violent and foul-mouthed puppet film, The Happytime Murders, and if you were looking for more of the lewd, crude, and violent footage that you saw in that first one, you’re in luck.

In this latest trailer, more footage is shown off, along with a voice-over that reads random tweets from users who appreciated what they saw. However, if subtlety or intelligent humor is something you’re into, you may be just as underwhelmed this time around as you were the first time.

To me, it’s very clear they’re looking to make sure we know this is as far removed as more family-friendly Muppets as possible, and in doing so, they went straight for needlessly crass humor more in line with movies like Game Over, Man! Straight-up, this doesn’t look like it’ll be any funny, but who knows, maybe this is all marketing’s fault (probably not)?

Below is the official synopsis for The Happytime Murders:

THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS is a filthy comedy set in the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles where puppets and humans coexist. Two clashing detectives with a shared secret, one human (Melissa McCarthy) and one puppet, are forced to work together again to solve the brutal murders of the former cast of a beloved classic puppet television show.”
