X-Men: The Animated Series Showrunner Gives His Thoughts On The Characters Inevitable Introduction Into The MCU

Now that Thanos has come and gone, the next most anticipated event in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be into introduction of the recently acquired properties in the Fantastic Four, Deadpool, and the mutants known as The X-Men. When this will happen is anyone’s guess but many fans hope it won’t be too much longer.

The showrunner for X-Men: The Animated Series, Eric Lewald, recently appeared on GWW Radio’s Change My Mind podcast. HE was asked about implementing the X-Men into the MCU. You can check out what he had to say below.

“It’s weird. I know that’s a challenge. They’ve set up this thing, unprecedented — all these different superheroes that all are successful, and they’ve managed to give them different tones and different focuses. I’m continually in the awe of this juggernaut that they’ve set up — I can’t use that word because it’s a character.”

More from Lewald:

“I don’t know. I don’t know how Kevin Feige sleeps at night trying to keep all these balls in the air. But for the X-Men, when people ask me about integrating them in the MCU, I always had the reverse problem. There were too many X-Men and too many villains already in the X-universe and too many connected characters. I found myself cutting half of them out and having stories about three of the X-Men. Just to keep sane and to not have to try to service all of them at once in a 22-minute episode.

It’s going to be a challenge for sure, but it’s something I believe Feige and his team are more than capable of handling. With the multiverse teetering or its own introduction into this cinematic superhero world, I think it’s likely the mutants will come into play in this manner. It will easily explain where they’ve been during the last 12 years and just seems to be a smooth way to bring them into the fold. Now, this is pure speculation so take it as such.

The MCU easily the most concise and well put together a cinematic universe of superheroes. However, it’s going to be something truly special once these estranged family members are finally brought home. Even without the pandemic, it’s likely their inclusion would have taken some time as I’m sure Kevin Feige and his team want it to be as perfect as can be, and have it be on par with the quality of most of the best of the MCU.
