The Russo brothers are so hot right now. Hot off Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War, Joe and Anthony Russo are currently working on completing Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 back-to-back, in addition to other projects they are producing and developing for when they are done with their projects at Marvel Studios.
Unfortunately, Variety reports that 20th Century Fox is backing out of a planned deal to co-finance and distribute film and television projects from the Russos.
The brothers had a “hand-shake” agreement with Fox, as Variety calls it, but reports the two sides were unable to come together on final terms as they were negotiating said deal. Variety‘s source says the Russos were looking for richer financial terms than were being offered, an amount akin to what is only offer to top directors like James Cameron and Steven Spielberg.
Though the Russos have proven themselves, twice, even if they pull of Infinity War and Avengers 4, they still have a long way to go to be on the same level as Spielberg. It all reminds me of George Costanza expecting “Ted Danson money” on Seinfeld.
Though 20th Century Fox chairman and CEO Stacey Snider sent an e-mail to the brothers yesterday stating the studio was walking away from the deal and ceasing negotiations, she wished the Russo brothers the best, noting if there were individual projects that Fox was interested in, “the door to the studio was wide open.”
