American Made Trailer & Poster Sees Tom Cruise In Over His Head

If you’re like us, one big Tom Cruise blockbuster a year just isn’t enough. Cruise may be headlining the start of a brand new franchise with The Mummy this coming weekend, but those who are lukewarm on the prospect may find more to like in his other venture coming out later this year, American Made. The film reunites him with Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman, and shows him as a pilot given the opportunity to run a covert operation for the U.S. government.

Universal has now released a brand new trailer for the upcoming crime flick, and it looks to be pretty darn solid. If the names Cruise and Liman aren’t enough to sell you, the trailer itself may be. It looks to be a fun little ride in the vein of War Dogs, Lord of War, and Catch Me if You Can, which is a very good thing. Some may also find it refreshing that Cruise is playing more of an everyman than he usually does.

Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean the movie will be a slam dunk, but it certainly has all the makings to be. Between the lead, director, and premise, it’s off to a strong start. The main unknown entity seemst o be in the writer Gary Spinelli, whose only other project to date is 2012’s Dolph Lundren flick, Stash House. we’ll have to wait and see what comes of this.

The official synopsis for American Made is below:

“In Universal Pictures’ American Made, Tom Cruise reunites with his Edge of Tomorrow director, Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Mr. and Mrs. Smith), in this international escapade based on the outrageous (and real) exploits of a hustler and pilot unexpectedly recruited by the CIA to run one of the biggest covert operations in U.S. history.

“Based on a true story, American Made co-stars Domhnall Gleeson, Sarah Wright, E. Roger Mitchell, Jesse Plemons, Lola Kirke, Alejandro Edda, Benito Martinez, Caleb Landry Jones and Jayma Mays.”
