Avengers 4 Rumor: Hawkeye To Take On New Identity Following Dark Events In Avengers: Infinity War

While most of the Avengers so far have had their chance to grow and shine, there is one Avenger who remains somewhat off to the side. Of course, we’re talking about Hawkeye. Sure, Hawkeye had some cool moments in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War, but unlike the others, he’s never really appeared as a secondary lead in the films, and as a result, we haven’t seen him grown all too much compared to the others.

This is something that may very well change down the line. According to a scoop from our friends over at MCU Exchange, Clint Barton may be making a switch from the moniker of Hawkeye to that of Ronin in Avengers 4.

This isn’t the first hint we’ve heard about this. About a month ago, actor Jeremy Renner shared a set photo, and while we didn’t see a lot, we could make out the back of his neck, which looked to be the base of an extreme new haircut.

Fans took this to mean he may be changing his superhero identity, which is not uncommon for the Clint Barton in the comics. About a decade ago, following the events in Civil War in the comics, he donned a mask, expanded his repertoire of weapons, and went by the name Ronin. Given that we last just saw him in Captain America: Civil War, this transition would line up, if the MCU was taking its cue from the comics.

MCU states that, according to their source, the events in Avengers: Infinity War leave Clint in a very dark place, and this could very well be the inciting moment that leads him to change his alter ego. Of course, the MCU doesn’t always take its cues from the comics, and isn’t afraid to go off into unexplored territory, but this would be a cool change of pace for the character — one that would make him infinitely more interesting.

While we believe this rumor from MCU Exchange, it can’t go without saying that Avengers 4 is still 20 months away, meaning there’s always a chance for it to change. Something that’s true now may end up on the cutting room floor. That being said, given how deep they are in production, we doubt that would be the case.
