When I first heard about this movie, First Man, I said to myself, “Now, why would anyone want to watch another film about a cyclist accused of blood-doping?” then I realized that this was a different Armstrong (smiles). In fact, this film will be about the life and space mission of Neil Armstrong, who was the first man to walk on the moon — unless you are a conspiracy theorist and believe it was all a hoax, but I am not one of these. First Man has been giving a release date of October 12, 2018, just in time for awards season, and will have some massive talent involved.

We must start with the “it” guy in Hollywood right now, Damien Chazelle, who is fresh off his Oscar win for BestDirector in La La Land. He also has two other nominations for Best Original Screenplay for the same film, and Best Adapted Screenplay for Whiplash. Both of these films rewarded the cast and crew quite nicely in the Oscar department, including J.K. Simmons for Best Supporting Actor and Emma Stone for Best Actress — not to mention a handful of nominations. He will be directing a script by another Oscar winning writer Josh Singer for his work on Spotlight. The best thing about Chazelle; he is only 32! How many more superb films might this guy make to entertain movie fans everywhere?

Isaac Klausner (The Fault in our Stars) will be the executive Producer.

Ryan Gosling will portray Neil Armstrong, and one can assume that Gosling really wants an Oscar for himself, as he has two nominations, and in all honesty his best work yet from The Big Short, was not even nominated. He may have a grudge on his shoulder, and this could be the biopic film needed to finally get him that trophy.

One could assume that First Man will be a 50/50 split between his life leading up to the space mission and the actual Apollo 11 flight itself, ending with Armstrong’s famous quote, “That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.” There are currently no castings for Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin or Michael Collins, which were the other two astronauts aboard.

Here is the official synopsis:

“A look at the life of astronaut, Neil A. Armstrong, and the legendary space mission that led him to become the first man to walk on the moon. Based on the book, ‘First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong'”

This could be an easy win for best picture! What say you? Would you rather instead see a movie about Lance Armstrong or perhaps a film based on the conspiracy theory of the space flight? Surely not! But, let us know in the comments below!
