20th Century Fox has released four short featurettes that focus on the stars of their upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. In all four clips, director Josh Trank and writer/producer Simon Kinberg open up about what makes each actor perfect for their role.
First up, Trank speaks effusively about Michael B. Jordan, who'll be playing "The Human Torch" Johnny Storm.
(PS. I'm still traumatized by Jordan's final scene in The Wire.)
Up next, it's time to look at Reed Richards himself, Whiplash's Miles Teller.
Trank and Kinberg then turn their focus onto Kate Mara (House of Cards), who will be the new Sue Storm- replacing Jessica Alba. They focus on how authentic her chemistry with Jordan felt during the auditions, and how that dynamic is critical.
Lastly, Jamie Bell is given the spotlight in this clip, with Trank saying that Bell has never played anyone like this and that this character was buried somewhere deep inside of him.
A contemporary re-imagining of Marvel's original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.
I know I'm in the minority here (said the guy who writes for Latino-Review), but I think Fantastic Four is going to be a pleasant surprise. The cast is dynamite. The director is full of promise. The writer/producer has stepped up his game quite a bit in recent years. Fox, as a studio, has shown that they know how to nurture and build modern day blockbuster franchises.
We will find out if these feelings of mine are misguided when Fantastic Four comes out on August 7.
