We’ve already posted a few stories today with producer/writer Simon Kinberg talking about the future of Fox’s X-Men franchise, specifically Gambit and the potential for doing another Dark Phoenix movie.
Now we’re going to get into big time conjecture territory because the following movies we discussed with Kinberg are NOT in development in any shape or form. We just wanted to get his opinion on the potential for a couple movies that could be added to the X-Franchise.
The first one is a follow-up to Logan director James Mangold talking about wanting to do an X-23 solo movie with Hugh Jackman’s Logan co-star, Dafne Keen, at the lead. Once you see Logan, you’ll totally want to see of young Ms. Keen as the character.
“I think it’s a real possibility,” Kinberg told us when asked about doing a solo X-23 movie.
“Again, the real criteria is always to find a story that can really be unique, distinct, compelling, surprising, bold… all of that. She’s an amazing character, and Dafne does a great job launching the character in the film, so I think there’s a good chance you’ll see something of that kind down the line… at least I hope so.â€
After that, we decided to go WAY off the playing field and throw out some of our own personal favorite X-Men characters, Canada’s own mutant super-group… Alpha Flight!
Considering what Kinberg said about the Dark Phoenix, it’s probably not likely we’ll see them in a future X-Men movie, but maybe they’ll someday get their very OWN movie, which would be pretty darn cool.
This is what the writer/producer said about the coolest thing about Canada since Rush:
“The thing that’s amazing about the X-Men is that there are hundreds or thousands of characters and a handful of really great teams, and Alpha Flight is one of them. It’s not something that we’ve been actively developing, but when you think about what the next phase is beyond the movies we have on our plate like Deadpool 2, New Mutants and whatever the next X-Movie is going to be, and potentially X-23. There are a lot of movies on the docket right now and Gambit, and X-Force would come after Deadpool 2. On the other side of those, then we have to start thinking about not just what are the sequels to the movies that already exist but what are the new universes that we can get into and Alpha Flight could be one of them. I wouldn’t want to stick them into an existing movie—I think they deserve to have their own.â€
A solo Alpha Flight movie.. how cool would that be? (I just hope I live long enough to see it.)
