Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker – Daisy Ridley Teases Dark Side Rey

By now I am sure everyone has seen the new trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, you know, the one with a seemingly Dark Side Rey at the end (check image above)?

Whether this means as is obviously hinted, that Rey actually turns to the darkside in this movie, is another matter. I think most fans, including me, see that as too controversial and therefore well outside of J.J. Abrams wheelhouse. Best guesses so far have ranged from the very boring ‘dark vision’ to the more interesting idea of Rey being one of many clones created by The Emperor.

The answer will likely allude us until December when we get to see The Rise of Skywalker for ourselves, however Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey in the Star Wars movies has added a little fuel to the fire with some comments she made in a recent article with Yahoo Movies, check it out.

“I mean, the evidence is on the screen. Take that evidence as you will. But there’s no smoke without fire. Just wait and see what J.J. and [co-writer Chris Terrio] did. It’s really impressive how they wrapped it up altogether and hopefully [with] a fitting ending.”

Ok, so “there’s no smoke without fire” is definitely not confirmation that Rey goes to the darkside, and if she did, then I imagine that’s the last thing they would have shown in a trailer for the movie. Instead, by being included this early, it heavily leans on the fact that this won’t be some game changing choice from Rey in the movie. I actually think for Rey to go dark at this point would be even worse than Daenerys Targaryen burning thousands of women and children suddenly in Game of Thrones final season. You can’t do a 180 on a character like that without building some arc to get there.

As said, I think the clone idea is far more interesting than Rey having a similar vison to Luke in Empire, but if I had to guess, considering this is J.J. Abrams, I’d have to choose the most simplistic option and I certainly hope I am dead wrong on that front.

What do you think of Ridley’s comments, does she turn, have a wee dream, or make a Star Wars version of that classic Spider-Man meme? Tell us how it is in the usual home of debate below.
