Wolverine: Hugh Jackman Likely Involved In Choosing Next Actor To Fill His Shoes

With the release of Logan, the career of Hugh Jackman comes to an end — no spoilers here about the movie — as this was his last appearance portraying the iconic role. This has been known for some time, and we have wondered who would be the next Wolverine, as there are plenty of X-Men stories to be told between the time periods of X-Men: Age of Apocalypse and that of Logan. Some have even questioned if they would go with a female wolverine, perhaps a time traveling X-23, or even his son Daken. But clearly, someone will have to play Wolverine.

In an interview with Deadline, producer Simon Kinberg was asked about quite few things including one that really stuck out me. He says he doesn’t even want to think about it right now, but clearly he has.

“We haven’t even thought of the next iteration of Wolverine. For all of us, we were keeping our fingers crossed that the audiences would respond to ‘Logan’ the way they have. I can’t visualize in my head another Wolverine, but — if that day ever comes — we would talk to Hugh [Jackman] about it.”

Kinberg is already looking ahead even with the fact that he will consult with Jackman! There are few actors that could fit the role as well as Jackman, so it would be a long casting process. I wonder if Karl Urban could fit the bill?

I have always been a huge fan of Daken in the comics, as he will do whatever it takes to get what he wants. In fact, he would make a perfect villain for X-Men 8, after the franchise has reestablished the new actor to play Wolverine in X-Men 7. Daken is his son, and this could have happened at anytime in the new timeline, and Wolverine would have no memory of it.

Logan takes place in the year 2029, where mutant births have become extremely rare. The defenders of mutant kind, the X-Men, are long gone, and the only remains of them are an old and struggling Charles Xavier and a weary Logan. Logan’s vaunted healing factor has slowed, and at times doesn’t seem to work at all. When a young mutant needs his help, Logan has to unsheathe his claws once more. His job isn’t over yet.

We will not know for sometime how this would play out, but who could you see taking up the mantle of Wolverine? Do you like my Karl Urban pick? Would you like to see Daken in X-Men 7 or 8?
