Well, this is kind of cool, and pretty darn interesting. If you’ve been following the past few years of news regarding the comic book movie The New Mutants, you know that director Josh Boone opted to take a totally unique approach to it — making it a full-on horror experience that isn’t exactly in sync with the source material. When that first trailer was released, it was clear that they leaned heavily into the horror aspect.
But then the film was delayed with rumors pointing to the studio dialing up the horror. And then there were rumors of Boone getting pulled out in favor of Dark Phoenix helmer Simon Kinberg — and keep in mind, this was after the film was done shooting and likely had, at the very least, an assembly cut.

The film got delayed again and is hitting this coming April…but we still had no news as to whether or not the reshoots ever actually happened, and with Josh Boone promoting the film, you have to wonder if we’ll be getting the original version he crafted. When asked about this, Boone replied, “I wouldn’t be promoting it here if it wasn’t.”

So, this has to be a very rare instance where a film is delayed for years with the promise of reshoots only for the reshoots to be virtually nonexistent by the time the film comes out, with the original director seemingly back in control. Seriously, how often do you hear about something like that actually happening? Pretty much never.
I, for one, am happy to hear that this is the case, but we truly don’t know 100% yet. With it being released under Disney, we won’t really know if Marvel Studios had a hand in it until it releases. Once we see it, we’ll know for sure if it was released just to get it out there or because the studio had faith. Only time will tell.
