If you’ve caught the latest trailer for Nolan’s Tenet, then you’re probably as confused as I am? Now we hear that even Kenneth Branagh doesn’t know if he’s the villain in Tenet? Read on for more details.
When the latest trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Tenet arrived, I was both confused and intrigued. What the hell is actually going on in Tenet? I’ve no idea, but I can’t wait to find out. Time reversal seems to be a thing in Tenet, and that means the movie will likely have an unusual structure to it. So much so that despite fans assuming Kenneth Branagh is playing the antagonist from the trailer, the actor doesn’t actually know if he is or not?
Branagh recently spoke to Total Film, and here is what the veteran actor said, courtesy of SyFy Wire.
“Given the nature of it, as Chris to some extent sort of reinvents the wheel here, a lot of people start engaging with John David Washington’s character in both expected ways … so you might expect me to be an antagonist … but then [the story] doesn’t quite follow what you might expect as the story plays out.”

Branagh also talked about how unusual the script for Tenet was.
“I kid you not, I read this screenplay more times than I have ever read any other thing I have ever worked on. It was like doing the Times crossword puzzle every day, I would imagine. Except the film and the screenplay didn’t expect you, or need you, to be an expert. In the playing of it, and in the scenes, he keeps upturning, or playing forward and backward, our expectations of what the character should be. So my conversations with [Nolan] about my character were constant, because the character’s evolution was not set. It was a series of constant surprises.”
There is always the chance that a movie can be a little too out there to really enjoy for audiences. So far, Nolan has managed to tread that tightrope expertly in both Inception and Interstellar. Both movies were big hits and loved by all sorts of movie fans, despite the complicated plots. So let’s hope Nolan pulls off another movie we are still debating in five years’ time. I personally enjoy Nolan’s movies so I have faith Tenet will make sense by the end, even if we struggle throughout the runtime.
Tenet is supposed to be with us by the end of next month. What do you think of the fact even Kenneth Branagh doesn’t know if he’s the villain in Tenet? Leave your thoughts below as always.
