Christopher Nolan’s latest film, Tenet, has been delayed yet again.
I’m sure everyone has a few things they’re most looking forward to being able to enjoy again once the pandemic begins to subside. I’d also wager that for a good number of people, being able to watch a movie at their local theater with a big box of popcorn ranks pretty high on that list. Netflix is great and all, but nothing beats sitting down in a darkened auditorium to catch the latest blockbuster.
Meanwhile, around the world movie theaters are still mostly closed for obvious reasons. And although some countries are seeing cinemas slowly reopen to the public, filmmakers are surely aware that box office numbers for new movie releases will be nowhere near pre-pandemic levels. As a result, production companies are understandably postponing premiere dates in the hopes of achieving greater audience numbers and greater returns at the box office.

James Bond: No Time To Die, Wonder Woman 1984, Marvel’s The Eternals and Black Widow, Mulan, Top Gun: Maverick, Ghostbusters: Afterlife — the list goes on and on. Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated Tenet is no exception. Initially slated for release on July 17, it has already been pushed back twice — to July 31 and then August 12. Today, Rotten Tomatoes revealed via Twitter that the premiere has now been delayed indefinitely.

To be honest, I can’t say I’m surprised. Pushing back the premiere by two weeks and then by a month seemed a bit overly optimistic on the part of Warner Bros. I certainly understand the decision to postpone indefinitely at this point. Given how little we know of how the pandemic will progress, there’s no telling when people will be allowed or even feel safe enough to attend movie theaters again.

Regardless, I’m definitely looking forward to watching Christopher Nolan’s latest movie. Like a lot of people, I’m a fan of his previous work and Tenet looks interesting to say the least. The trailer definitely has me intrigued. Even if it gives little to nothing away in terms of plot.
What about you? Are you eager to be able to visit movie theaters again? And are you disappointed with the decision to postpone Tenet’s release indefinitely?
