In the human mind, there may be an entire world controlling the thoughts. Or perhaps even censor them as in the short film Censor of Dreams by Léo Berne and Ralphaël Rodriguez.
The directing pair crafted a dark comedy based on the book “Yume no ken’estukan” or titled Censor of Dreams by the author Yasutaka Tsutsui. The sci-fi narrative follows a team of people who try to block their host’s painful dreams and memories.

Night after night, The Censor and his team mold Yoko’s memories into fantastical dreams. Tonight nothing happens as planned.

LRM Online’s Gig Patta chatted with directors Léo Berne and Raphaël Rodriguez on the live-action short film. We talked about the behind-the-scenes magic that pulled the audiences into a Twilight Zone type of story. Also, we talked about the unique location for the shots and the cast on the project.
Co-directors Léo Berne and Raphaël Rodriguez founded Megaforce with Clément Gallent and Charles Brisgand. They have directed music videos and campaigns for Rihanna, Madonna, Kid Cudi, and many others. In 2013, they were nominated for Best Director at the UK Music Video Awards. From 2015 to 2021, they were listed amongst Televisual’s Top 10 Directors and made it to AdAge’s Top Three Directors. In 2018, they were crowned Best Directors in Campaign Magazines. Their campaign titled “Nothing Beats a Londoner” for Nike was the most decorated commercial of the last 40 years at D&AD.
Censor of Dreams made its premiere at the 2021 Warsaw Film Festival, in which it won the Oscar-qualifying award. The Censor of Dreams is on the shortlist for the 2022 Academy Award in the Live-Action Short Film category.
