Andor: Tony Gilroy Confirms Season Two Will Carry Over 4 Years

Andor didn't use The Volume

We now have more clarity on how Andor will tell its story over five years in just two seasons. Earlier this year at Star Wars Celebration Tony Gilroy, Andor showrunner said that Cassian’s story will be told in two seasons. The first season will consist of 12 episodes and will tell the first year of Cassian’s journey to join the rebellion. Then a second 12-episode season will tell the remaining four years of Cassian’s arc. Speaking with Empire, Gilroy explains how season two will jump four years in the span of 12 episodes, leading directly to the events of Rogue One.

“Directors work in blocks of three episodes, so we did four blocks [in Season 1] of three episodes each.” That shooting schedule organically led to Season 2’s different structure. “We looked and said, ‘Wow, it’d be really interesting if we come back, and we use each block to represent a year. We’ll move a year closer with each block’,” he says. “From a narrative point of view, it’s really exciting to be able to work on something where you do a Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and then jump a year.”

It appears that the second season of Andor will have the same storytelling format as Star Wars: The Clone Wars. From everything that we have seen about the show from the teaser trailer to posters, the scale of this show seems really big. I think it is safe to say that Andor will be jumping across multiple characters and traveling to different planets.  Genevieve O’Reilly seems to have a large role as Mon Mothma in Andor. There is a strong possibility that we will see some other familiar faces appear in the show. Personally, I hope we get an appearance from everyone’s favorite Mon Calamari, Admiral Ackbar.
