Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto hints the character could make his DCU debut in the Booster Gold series. As we know, Blue Beetle itself is not canon to the new DCU which will begin in animation with Creature Commandos and in live-action with Superman: Legacy. However one of the DC bosses, James Gunn has said that Jaime Reyes will continue to be played by Xolo Maridueña in the new DCU.
Ergo, Soto was quizzed about this in a recent interview. Check it out below courtesy of DCU Updates. Whilst nothing major is given away, Soto does say there is a desire to keep telling stories with Jaime going forward and drops the name Booster Gold. Booster Gold is already conformed to be on of the Max series Gunn is developing//commissioning for the DCU.

I’m sure fans will be happy with this news given the connection between Booster Gold and Blue Beetle in the comics. This does indeed serve as perhaps the perfect opportunity to introduce both characters. Obviously Jaime’s current movie backstory may not be official canon. However, my guess is the plan will be to carry on as if it was whilst never directly stating it.
Blue Beetle didn’t do all that well at the box office. For a start it was recently beaten in pure numbers by the Paw Patrol movie. Though, that’s not as surprising as you’d imagine. Whilst I’m confident Blue Beetle cost more to make than Paw Patrol, it was not a high budget affair. In other words, this was much less of a flop than recent DCEU movies like The Flash.

One would imagine that the DCU will receive more interest from audiences. However, that may depend on how well Superman: Legacy is received by fans? If Superman is received well, it will help out additional DCU shows and movies. Booster Gold and Blue Beetle have always shared popular comic books, so if they pull that relationship off, Booster Gold could be a very fun show.
