The big news that broke last night was that The Acolyte has in fact been cancelled and we won’t get a Season 2. Deadline reported the news, though, they were not first, more on that below. Here is what the trade had to say about the cancellation of the Star Wars series.
‘The story of The Acolyte will not continue, with Lucasfilm opting not to proceed with a second season of the Star Wars offshoot starring Amandla Stenberg, sources tell Deadline.’
‘Word of the decision comes more than a month after the eight-episode first season of the series from creator, director, executive producer and showrunner Leslye Headland wrapped its run on Disney+.’
The trade goes on to say why the news is unsurprising. Frankly though there were fans, I feel like far more of the fan base either wasn’t keen or felt there were many issues to be ironed out if it was go forward. You can find my review of The Acolyte Here. It’s not a great review.
As for Deadline being first… Actually that would have been us. LRM reported this same news four weeks ago based on information from our source at Lucasfilm. We rarely cover our own leaks these days, but our source remains active and occasionally still passes us information. This source for us has around a 95% hit rate across 20+ leaks we have received. Check it out.

Basically same thing we heard, Lucasfilm has decided not to move ahead with a Season 2. Some fans are huffing some copium about this one. I’ve seen some predict it’s all a ruse so that Season 2 can go by a new name and focus on Qimir and Plagueis. Yep, that is not true. What we had heard was that if this story is ever continued it would be with a different showrunner and new ideas.
Nothing against those involved with production. For me The Acolyte has some good ideas that were relatively poorly executed. I likened it to a YA novel compared to an adult novel like Andor. Yeah, I’d like to find out more about Qimir and Plagueis. However, I have almost no interest in seeing Mae, Osha or Vernestra Rwoh ever again. Sorry those involved, it just wasn’t that well written or directed.
What do you think of this news as The Acolyte is cancelled and that means we won’t get a Season 2? As usual, leave any thoughts below.
