Danny Trejo may be known as a tough badass on screen. But he has a softer side, too. His love of children’s stories led him to voice acting in animation and even the Spy Kids series. Now, he is the voice of reason as he narrates Gracie & Pedro: Pets To the Rescue of a dog and a cat trying their way back to their family.

The film has an all-star voice cast that includes Susan Sarandon (Thelma & Louise), Bill Nighy (Love Actually), Brooke Shields (The Blue Lagoon), Alicia Silverstone (Clueless), and Al Franken (Saturday Night Live).

Here is the official synopsis:

Gracie and Pedro, two beloved pets who don’t get along, are thrown into an unexpected adventure after being separated from their family during a cross-country move. Stranded in an unfamiliar land, pampered show dog Gracie and street-smart alley cat Pedro must put aside their differences and rely on each other to find their way home. Along their journey, they meet colorful characters and face daunting obstacles, ultimately discovering their shared determination and love for their family.

LRM Online’s Gig Patta chatted with legendary actor Danny Trejo about his character and lending his voice to this family-friendly animated film. We also talked about his love for children’s stories and animals and the change of his career path from dying in films to being a hero and voicing animation.

Danny Trejo began his career playing criminals, inmates, and gangsters that included Runaway Train, Death Wish 4: The Crackdown, but more notably in Desperado, Heat, From Dusk Till Dawn, Con Air, The Replacement Killers, and Once Upon a Time in Mexico. He then shifted from villain to hero with Spy Kids franchise and Machete. Never stopping, he continues with countless films and even voicing in animation and video games, including Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Call of Duty: Black Ops, to just name a few.

Gracie & Pedro: Pets to the Rescue is in theaters today, October 18.
