Back in July 1939, the residents and communities organized the most extensive search and rescue effort to find the 12-year-old lost child Donn Fendler, separated from a hike. Noe Fendler’s story comes to light in the family drama Lost On a Mountain in Maine.

The film stars Luke David Blumm in his sensational performance as Donn Fendler. The rest of the cast includes Paul Sparks (House of Cards), Caitlin FitzGerald (The Trial of the Chicago 7, Succession), Griffin Wallace Henkel (Armageddon Time), and Ethan Slater (Wicked).

Andrew Boodhoo Kightlinger directed the film from the screenplay adaptation by Luke Paradise.

Here is the official synopsis:

Based on the book of the same name, the film tells the inspiring story of a 12-year-old boy who, separated from his family by a fast-moving storm, must fight to stay alive during his nine-day adventure lost in the backwoods of Maine.

LRM Online’s Gig Patta chatted with director Andrew Boodhoo Kightlinger about recreating the story, finding the right child actor to play Donn Fendler, the family drama, inputting the real-life interviews, and the challenges of filming outdoors.

Andrew Boodhoo Kightlinger directed the prairie-bound drama Tater Tot & Patton, starring Jessica Rothe. Also, he directed the award-winning short film Destroyer with Alan Ruck.

Lost On a Mountain in Main is in theaters on Friday, November 1.
