Andor Creator Tony Gilroy Teases Some Unusual Plans Lucasfilm Is Working On For Star Wars

Whilst it doesn’t involve him directly, Andor creator Tony Gilroy teases that Lucasfilm has some unusual plans they are working on for Star Wars. Gilroy spoke recently to The Ringer-Verse and said,

“There’s some things that [Lucasfilm] is building that are really unusual I think and I think that lesson [of letting your freak flag fly] is being taken to heart”

Gilroy was heavily inside the Star Wars inner circle, but for now he’s not working directly with Lucasfim. The studio seems to be learning lessons about announcing projects too soon. Therefore, I imagine that what Gilroy is referring to here are some early in development ideas.

I’m fine with Star Wars swinging for the fences a little. However, unlike other franchises I do think certain world building aspects should remain consistent. For me, there needs to be a reason to set a good idea for a story in the Star Wars Universe. Could this be a separate franchise and it’s just being branded as Star Wars for money? No matter the genre, does it remains consistent with the franchise’s world building? None of us can control whether the ideas or scripts are good.

Examples of pushing too far – The healing in The Rise of Skywalker, the return of Palpatine and a few more. Obi-Wan Kenobi also pushed annoyingly too close to breaking canon.

If the quality is good, and it fits within this Universe without retcons, I say why not?

What do you think of these unusual Star Wars plans teased by Tony Gilroy? Thoughts below.
