The Game of Thrones movie is a go and nabs Andor writer Beau Willimon to pen the script, rumored to be about Aegon’s Conquest. Willimon was a co-writer on Andor alongside showrunner Tony Gilroy and according to Deadline, that’s who WB has tapped to write the script.

‘Progress has been made on the Game of Thrones movie, first announced as entering early development at Warner Bros in the fall of 2024, with Andor‘s Beau Willimon boarding the project as screenwriter, Deadline has confirmed.’

‘While plot details haven’t been confirmed, the film will reportedly center on Aegon I, the first Lord of the Seven Kingdoms who spawned the Targaryen dynasty — the royal family at the heart of the entire franchise. This would mark the first time Aegon I has been depicted on screen.’

This will be a familiar event for any fans who have watched Game of Thrones or any of the spin-off shows. Aegon Targaryen and his sister-wives decide to conquer the rest of Westeros from their home at Dragonstone, using their gigantic dragons to defeat those who oppose them.

It’s definitely the kind of story that would lend itself to a movie sized budget. Aegon’s dragon Balerion, The Black Dread being sizeably bigger than any dragon we have seen in the TV series. Far bigger than Drogon, pictured in the header. Well, let’s just say one can imagine some fantastic special effects being employed, which you can pull off in a movie.

What story there is to tell of this event? Well that kind of falls to Willimon now. There are some events that we know happen, but there’s a lot of free space in the lore also. However, Willimon has some fantastic writing and producing credits to his name, so I have faith he’ll nail it.

For now, there is no idea of when production may begin or when to expect to see this film in theatres. Things are now moving along though. So, what do you think of Beau Willimon writing the Game of Thrones movie, probably about Aegon’s Conquest? Thoughts below as always.
