Both the re-release of Star Wars and new movie Starfighter being released in 70MM IMAX, plus there’s evidence two new movies may be in development. Let’s begin with the IMAX news and fans of the unaltered original Star Wars will finally get to see that cut of the film on IMAX screens. As per the headline, so will prospective fans of brand new Star Wars film Starfighter.

As per Deadline,

Disney’s Lucasfilm’s new universe title Star Wars: Starfighter in addition to the 50th anniversary re-release of Star Wars will be presented in Imax 70mm upon release in 2027.

For the 1977 George Lucas-directed Star Wars, the release will rep the first time that movie has been released in Imax, in digital or film. The pic will open in the format on February 19. Star Wars: Starfighter will bow on May 28, which is the 50th anniversary weekend of the original Star Wars.

So there you have it IMAX fans.

Secondly we have some potential evidence that two new Star Wars movies are in early development. Earlier this week I saw Production Weekly had two films listed, one called New Jedi Order and one was Filoni Star Wars film. I just figured this was a throwback to when an untitled Rey Sequel set in the ‘New Jedi Order’ era was supposed to come next followed by a Dave Filoni directed MandoVerse movie. Plus, the site which used to be very accurate, has long since been so in my opinion.

However, as per the report by SWNN,

At the same time, this week, as our regular Discord server users know (sign up here), there was another piece of development concerning these titles. Both of them added a production designer to their IMDb pages (Jamie Lapsley for New Jedi Order and Michael Shaw for Filoni’s movie), and New Jedi Order also enlisted Arjun Bhasin as a costume designer. Production designers, and sometimes costume designers too, are often brought into a project as early as during the screenwriting phase to assist the writer with some of the scenery. Take Luke Hull, the Chernobyl production designer who was present during writing staff meetings of Andor.

So maybe worth keeping an eye on this. Filoni’s movie was never really shelved and he is in charge now, so this could be the planned conclusion to the MandoVerse story. As for New Jedi Order, is it called that now? Was it not quietly shelved? I guess we shall see what the future brings, but worth keeping an eye on for sure.
