Angelina Jolie is definitely on her way to have an excellent new career in directing.
With the footage shown for “Unbroken†at Universal Pictures’ presentation at CinemaCon this week, there are people already mentioning possible awards. Latino-Review was present during the presentation.
The biopic drama follows the life of the Olympic runner Louis Zamperini, who was taken as a prisoner of war by the Japanese during World War II.
The footages shown during CinemaCon included scenes of Zamperini’s childhood escaping cops and competing in high school race track tournaments. However, most of the footage revealed when he was drafted as an airman for a bomber during World War II. After a failed rescue mission, his plane went down in the Pacific Ocean in which he was saved by the Japanese enemy. There were a lot of footage of the POW camp and how the Japanese abuse the former Olympic runner in many different ways.
The performance by Jack O’Connell as Louis Zamperini is very dramatic and powerful. And the story is intriguing and gripping. No doubt this film could be Oscar bait for next season.
“I want to make this film, because in the end the message is one that we all need now more than ever,†Jolie addressed the CinemaCon audience. “It’s the journey of man finding his way through the darkness into the light. It is about an imperfect person. One who we and our children can look up to. Someone who helps to remind us all that each of us are capable of. To never lose heart. To define brotherhood with our fellow man. To gain strength from our family. To identify our fears and our pain. To come face-to-face with the darkness. And to never, ever give up. We are unbroken.â€
“Unbroken†will be in theaters on December 25.
