‘DEADPOOL 2’: Dolph Lundgren Interested in Playing Cable

Looks like Cable seems to be the part to go for these days. Following the success of DEADPOOL, and the “reveal” that Cable would likely be making his way into the inevitable sequel, actor Stephen Lang expressed his interest in playing the part, going so far as to post a photo of himself getting ready for the part on social media. Other actors fans have seemed to want to play the role include Jon Hamm and Jefferey Dean Morgan.

Another actor now on the radar is Dolph Lundgren, who fans most likely best remember from ROCKY IV and, more recently, the EXPENDABLES franchise. Lundgren also played the role of Frank Castle in the 1989 PUNISHER film. In a recent interview with Nerdist, the outlet asked Lundgren if he was interested in venturing back into the Marvel world.

Lundgren’s response was as follows:

“That’s a good question. I haven’t watched a lot of these superhero movies; for some reason, I don’t know, I’m just busy making films. I did hear in… DEADPOOL, isn’t there a character named Cable that’s coming? Like, he’s a big guy? I guess I could kick some butt doing that, I suppose. We’ll see. When I saw the picture, he looks a little bit like Ivan Drago mixed with Gunner Jensen mixed with… I don’t know.”

While Lundgren isn’t the most familiar with the character, or comic book films in general, he could definitely play the role physically. It’s just a matter of whether or not he can make all the right moves in the audition room.

We’ll have to wait and see.
