Snyder Wants Jeffrey Dean Morgan To Play FLASHPOINT Batman?!

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is on the tip of people’s tongues these days. The actor not only appeared in the blockbuster film Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice earlier this year, but is about to have a big moment in the sun when he returns as Negan in AMC’s smash hit series The Walking Dead. Naturally, this means he’s out and about doing promotional interviews, and it tends to be inevitable that he gets asked about his DC ties.

During a recent interview, Morgan dropped an interesting tidbit about a role Batman V Superman director Zack Snyder would love to see him play: Batman.

According to Morgan, Snyder told him back during their days working on Watchmen, that he’d love to see him as a darker take on Batman. Here’s what he told Cinema Blend:

“[…] I remember when we were in Australia doing Watchmen press, and I was having dinner with Zack or whatever. And he was like, ‘My dream is to do the Frank Miller Batman.’ And he goes, ‘You would be an awesome Batman.’ The darker version.”

Obviously, that didn’t come to pass, as Ben Affleck would go on to become Snyder’s Batman. And Snyder basically took a crack at doing “the Frank Miller Batman” by loosely basing Dawn Of Justice on Miller’s book, The Dark Knight Returns

But that’s not to say that Snyder didn’t leave a back door open for Morgan to play The Dark Knight. See, he ended up casting Morgan as Thomas Wayne in Batman V Superman, and in that film he also introduced The Flash and his incredible abilities. Comic book readers will recall that the epic Flashpoint event that took place in the books involved The Flash going back in time to save his mother, and setting off a series of events that actually led to Thomas Wayne becoming Batman instead of Bruce.

This would mean that if they ever tried to do the Flashpoint storyline in the DC Extended Universe, that Morgan would end up making an appearance as a darker version of Batman.

Maybe when he cast me that was kind of the goal. Hopefully DC can figure this all out, and in a few years I can come back and do a Flashpoint Batman! I would love it,” Morgan said during that same interview. “That would be great.”

With that said, Morgan is quick to add, “I have not had any big discussions with him about [Flashpoint].

It’s all pretty interesting, and probably a total long shot. And yet, when we consider what an avowed comic book nerd Snyder is, is it beyond the realm of possibility that he’d like to get a Flashpoint movie made one day? Is that something you’d like to see? How about Morgan donning the cowl? Sound off!
