Suicide Squad only came out last August, and we’re already just a few weeks from its home release. If you’ve been following the DC Extended Universe, you’ll know that it’s Achilles Heel seems to be in theatrical releases. Batman v Superman was a widely-panned film that got significantly better in its Ultimate Edition cut, which boasted around 30 minutes of extra footage. While Suicide Squad was largely accepted by fans as a fun movie, there was no denying that the film still had problems, and many are hoping the upcoming Extended Cut will fix some of these problems.
Among the many criticisms of the film were its muddled plot, pop song-centric introductions, villains, and under-utilized Joker. Unfortunately, the Extended Cut only has 11 minutes of extra footage in it, so it’s very unlikely all of these problems will be solved, but at the very least, we may see a bit more Joker, if the new trailer is any indication.
Take a look at the new trailer below, which features a couple shots of new footage:
In the trailer, there were around three new scenes. The first appeared to be an extended version of the scene where the Joker has Harley strapped down. The second seemed to be a confrontation between Harley and Katana as they roam the streets. The third looks to be another part of the Harley/Joker flashback, wherein she points the gun at Joker’s noggin before he knocks it away. Based on that, it seems safe to conclude that most of the changes will be Harley and Joker related — which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Can it fix all the bigger plot problems? Probably not. But it may help to at least address one of the main issues of the film. And who knows, perhaps this Extended Cut will actually end up being a bit of a RE-cut — okay, that’s probably wishful thinking.
Suicide Squad Extended Cut hits Digital HD on November 15 and Blu-ray on December 13, 2016.
