Jared Leto has always felt like something of a wild card for the DC Extended Universe. Prior to the release of Suicide Squad, there were rumors about his weird method acting style — him sending weird “gifts” to fellow actors in the character of the Joker, among many other things.
Things didn’t get better when the film came out. He was vocal about the number of Joker scenes that were left on the cutting room floor, and from the way it sounded, he seemed to have felt misled about the movie he signed on to act in. Coupling those feelings with audiences being split on his actual performance, we were left wondering whether or not he’d actually come back for another film, or if Warner Bros. would replace him altogether for his failure to be more of a team player.

At least that’s how it seemed on the surface. Recently, it’s been revealed that he’ll be reprising his role as the Joker in a Joker and Harley Quinn spinoff movie, and when asked on the Kyle and Jackie O show if it was true he was sick of talking about his involvement in the movies.
Here’s how Leto responded:
“No, no, no, no. There’s so much hype and so much bulls**t around that that I think it’s just a fun thing to talk about. Even when the movie came out, there was so misrepresentation about what went down, about that method acting crap. 90 percent of it was not even true. It just takes on a life of its own.
“It was an incredible experience. Everybody was amazing. Margot Robbie — one of the nicest people, one of the best actresses I’ve ever worked with, and I really loved working with her. I thought the scenes and what we did together was some of the most fun I’ve ever had on a set before. But everything’s great in that world, and I’m really proud to be a part of it.”
While this isn’t necessarily a confirmation that Leto will be back, this quote does at least downplay everything we heard regarding the production of Suicide Squad. Plus, while he definitely said the stuff that was reported on, it’s likely a situation where his tone or feelings were taken out of context.
All in all, it sounds like Leto is ready to play ball with whatever future DCEU film there is on the horizon for the Joker. I know I’m in the minority here, but I look forward to seeing more of what he has to offer.
